Key Facts - Fuel Pricing in Zambia
Frequently Asked Questions
What are the current fuel prices in Zambia?
As of the ERB July 2026 review, the national pump prices are K26.15 per litre for petrol, K28.11 for diesel and K28.32 for kerosene. These are uniform across the country.
Who sets fuel prices in Zambia?
The Energy Regulation Board (ERB) sets and reviews fuel pump prices in Zambia, usually every month. Prices are the same at every station in the country under the national uniform pump pricing system.
Why do fuel prices in Zambia change every month?
Zambia imports refined fuel, so the pump price tracks two things: the international oil price (in US dollars) and the Kwacha exchange rate. When either moves, the ERB adjusts the pump price up or down at the monthly review.
What is fuel economy (L/100km) and how do I find mine?
Fuel economy is how many litres your car burns to cover 100 km. A small car like a Vitz uses about 6-7 L/100km; an SUV 10-13. To measure yours: fill the tank, drive, refill, then divide litres used by kilometres driven and multiply by 100.
Is diesel cheaper to run than petrol in Zambia?
It depends. Diesel costs more per litre (K28.11 vs K26.15), but diesel engines are usually more efficient, so on long trips a diesel can still work out cheaper per kilometre. Use the calculator to compare your actual vehicle.
How do I work out the fuel cost of a trip? Show me an example.
Multiply distance by your car's economy, then by the pump price. Example: a Toyota Vitz (6.5 L/100km) driving 120 km on petrol at K26.15/litre uses 120 / 100 x 6.5 = 7.8 litres, so the trip costs 7.8 x K26.15 = K203.97. A return trip doubles it.
